I think about the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well. She came because she was thirsty. However, Jesus asked her for water, and she was confused by this. After challenging him, He said, “if you knew who I was, you would ask me for something to drink, and I’d give it to you.” She said “you don’t have a bucket deep enough for this well.” Me: “Oooooooooooooohhh”, as the reader.
Many times we want to fix ourselves before giving ourselves over to God when he wants you Just the Way You Are.
Let me tell you, there may be some things in the well of your soul that are creating dryness in you and your relationships. There may be some triggers and traumas that are creating cycles of passive/aggressiveness that end up antagonizing you and the relationships that you have.
Jesus said to her, “Go call your husband and come back.” The woman answered him and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying you have no husband, for you have had FIVE husbands, and the man you are now living with is not your husband!”
If anybody has experienced challenges in relationships, it is this woman. FIVE marriages and FIVE divorces later led her to settle for a non-marital living situation with her partner. In her head, this may have been safer due to what she’s been through. However, there was still something that she was lacking.
Living Water. God’s Love. Restoration.
We need our souls restored by the only one who can restore them. And some of us may even need to look into investing in ourselves so that we can develop healthy thoughts and communication skills.
How you show up in yourself is how you will show up in your relationships. When you want to transform your relationships, it begins with your own restoration and transformation. Are you Thirsty? 😀
Questions to consider: Are you in need of restoration? What kind of devotional life do you or the 2 of you already have, whether you’re dating or married?
